Every year in the last week of May, a group of whisky aficionados assembles for a very special event — an event celebrating the rich culture of the Scottish island of Islay and of course, the fruitful spirit of whisky production. And every year, no vehicle is safe — the harvesters and hatchbacks get all jazzed up and transformed into colorful mobile gardens that parade from the alluring pier of Port Ellen past the doors of Ardbeg distillery. And if you’re not among those lucky few attendees, Ardbeg offers you an exceptional condolence prize — their Drum Committee Release, made exclusively as a homage to the cheery occasion. This single malt Scotch whiskey was aged in ex-bourbon casks and finished in rum casks, making it the very first batch blessed with this privilege. Bottled at 52% ABV and non-chill filtered, the single malt features a collaboration of Ardbeg’s classic smoky profile and the bright and fruity flavors left behind by that special rum cask touch. Tasting Notes

On the nose, this single malt impresses with a fragrant mingle of pine resin, woodsmoke and seaspray, accompanied by the sweetness of fresh vanilla pods, ripe bananas, and pineapple. The palate excites with lavender, licorice, and vanilla aromas, with notes of peat, salinity, and dark chocolate in the background. The finish is long and smoky.
